Introduction

To really understand a place you need to feel it, touch it, smell it, walk through it!

These walking safaris offer a truly unique experience and may be tailormade to suit your level of fitness, comfort levels, length of stay and budget and without another safari vehicle in sight!

Traverse this beautiful country with geologic structures of immense age that tell stories of a turbulent and rich history beside the Rift Valley. Archeological artifacts like flints, shards, graves and pottery litter much of the ground near our camps and in all this evidence are fascinating stories of an equally turbulent cultural history.

The rich wildlife this part of Laikipia distinguishes it for its diversity of large mammals, the greatest in Kenya. Besides the Elephants, the big cats and all the remaining large predators, endangered species thrive here too like the Grevy's Zebra, Wilddogs and Highland Hartebeest.

CLASSIC WALKING SAFARIS

The Classic walking safari offers accommodation is in spacious Kodiak tents for 1 or 2 people with bedding and pillow and a towel. There is a table with a mirror and water and a solar light in the tent, and carpets and a stool add to the tent comforts.

Walks are led by English speaking guides and hosted by expert Samburu or Laikipia Maasai guides and tracker who will share their knowledge on the flora and fauna, and their local customs. You will enjoy a nice hot shower and toilets are shared.

Delicious meals are served and if you wish for some beer, wine or spirit, this is also included. The classic safari is perfect for those wanting a tent that that you can stand in but not bothered about the luxury extras.

LUXURY WALKING SAFARIS

Luxury walking safaris with camels offers a little more extravagance and is a journey as the camp moves along with you with the help of the staff and camels (10-25 camels depending on the group size).

The 4 poster bed is left behind, but the king size mattress, feather pillow and duvet are not. Your accommodation is in a large, traditional, canvas tent with a chair, table, mirror, drinking water and a basin on the veranda. The bedding has 2 pillows, sheets and duvets, dressing gowns, towels, hot water bottles, solar lights, headlamps, and carpets. You can request for a bucket shower that comes with plenty of hot water. There is a toilet behind each tent.

Meals are of great quality with breakfast and dinner served to the table and an informal buffet-style lunch. Beer, wine and spirits are also included for those who love to have their taste of alcohol in the wild. (Excludes luxury spirits and champagne). You will visit the various Manyattas, see the dances and local markets (Tuesday and Wednesdays only).

TUMAREN SATELLITE CAMP

The camp is a mobile tented camp (like the luxury one with green canvas tents) that is exclusive to your group and remains in one place. The walks and camel rides go out from this camp each day and come back to the same camp. Luxury bedding, towels, lights, a chair, table, mirror, drinking water and a basin on the veranda, with hot bucket showers and personal toilets. Alcohol is included with your meals.

AIR BNC

The  Air Bed and Camel Walking Safaris are perfect for the budget-conscious travellers for whom the experience is more important than luxuries. The tents are 4 man dome tents with sheets and blankets for bedding with towels. The meals are 2 course meals and alcohol is extra. The camp is a lighter camp but still comfy which means less staff and camels used to move it.
